MBMG Webinar 2021

One notable feature of the COVID era has been the proliferation of online events and presentations. In general, MBMG has bucked this trend.

While communication is really important, we’ve tried not to overload our clients and subscribers with events just for the sake of it.
But this month, we’ve decided to run a double bill featuring 2 quite exceptional speakers on 2 really vital and extremely topical subjects.

Equity valuations expert and leading author, Steve Clapham, will be discussing the factors driving valuations in various assets, such as technology and internet stocks, especially in China and emerging markets, to help answer the question ‘Is there an equity bubble?’

Steve Keen, recognized by his peers as the economist who most accurately forecasted the Global Financial Crisis will be discussing the financial, economic and capital market implications of climate change.

Our Speakers

He is the founder of Behind the Balance Sheet, an investment research and training consultancy, which produces bespoke research and runs training courses for a select group of institutional clients and has an online school for private investors.

Steve spent some 20 years as an equity analyst at different investment banks, covering various sectors, and then moved to the buy-side where he was a partner and head of research at two multi-billion dollar hedge funds.

Steve frequently appears in the press and on podcasts, including Bloomberg Odd Lots and the Acquirer’s Podcast as well as on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 and on Real Vision, talking about accounting issues at quoted companies. His book, The Smart Money Method, outlines his research process and is a number 1 Amazon investment category bestseller.

Stephen (Steve) Clapham

Founder of Behind the Balance Sheet, an investment research and training consultancy

He is one of the handful of economists to realise that the Global Financial Crisis was brewing and to publicly warn of it from as early as December 2005. Along with his pioneering work on modelling debt-deflation, this resulted in him winning the Revere Award from the Real World Economics Review for being the economist whose work is most likely to prevent a future financial crisis.

His book Debunking Economics is widely regarded as the seminal exposition of why Neoclassical economic theory and its evil twin, climate denial economics, is not only inconsistent, unscientific and empirically unsupported, but a threat to the survival of capitalism and the planet itself.

Steve is an Honorary Professor at UCL and a fellow at the Centre for Policy Development.
